Our client suffered serious burns to his body due to an electrical fire in his condominium unit. The defense blamed the fire on our client’s mentally challenged sister-in-law who lost her life in the fire. After years of intense litigation, we were able to prove that HOA knew that the fire suppression systems were not operating properly and that there were no sounding alarms at the property to warn residents or alert the fire department of a fire. We were further able to prove that the HOA had made a conscious decision not to pay $3,894.25 to replace the aged and degraded equipment with automatically sounding smoke detectors, which would have saved our client from his permanent burn injuries and saved his sister-in-law’s life.
